Mustard Green - Hyakka *NEW*
Brassica juncea - approximately 300 seeds.
Originally from Japan, 'Hyakka' has deeply-veined, downward-curling leaves which have a pungent taste like a slightly sweet version of wasabi. These beautiful purple-green leaves are perfect for spicing up salads when young and fresh, additionally as they grow larger they are a great addition to soups and stir fries.
Growing Info
A versatile fast growing crop which is well suited to direct sowing and overwintering. Direct sow from March and successionally throughout the year until August/September.
Alternatively, sow into modules and transplant at 15cm spacing. Small leaves should be ready to harvest in 30/40 days.
August/September sowings can be transplanted undercover to provide a crop throughout the winter.
Early and late sowings do particularly well as summer-sown crops may bolt due to hot and dry conditions.
TOP TIP: Cover young plants in insect mesh to protect from flea beetle (spring/summer).
GROWN IN SCOTLAND | Germination: 90% July 2025
