Mustard Green - Vibrant Ultraviolet *NEW 2024/25*
Brassica rapa - approximately 300 seeds.
A beautiful deep purple mustard green suitable for growing throughout the year. This mustard green makes a particularly vibrant addition to a winter garden.
As plants mature the colour of the leaves changes from fresh blue/green to ultraviolet. When exposed to cold temperatures the colour becomes extra vibrant. Can be picked young for salads or left to grow large when the intensified peppery flavour makes a great addition to stir-fries and soups.
Bred by Frank Morton this is an OSSI (Open Source Seed Initiative) Pledged Variety. OSSI is working to maintain fair and open access to plant genetic diversity worldwide and ensuring freedom to use these resources for farmers, gardeners, breeders, and communities of this and future generations.
Growing Info
A versatile fast growing crop which is well suited to direct sowing and overwintering. Direct sow from March and successionally throughout the year until August/September. Alternatively, sow into modules and transplant at 15cm spacing. Small leaves should be ready to harvest in 30/40 days.
August/September sowings can be transplanted undercover to provide a crop throughout the winter.
Early and late sowings do particularly well as summer-sown crops may bolt due to hot and dry conditions.
Tip: Cover young plants in insect mesh to protect from flea beetle (spring/summer).
