Brassica oleracea var. gongylodes ~ 200 seeds.

 

A striking purple kohl rabi with a crisp white centre. Easy to grow throughout the season, it has a sweet, apple-like flavour when eaten raw—perfect grated into coleslaw or roasted. The leaves are edible too, and can be cooked like kale.

Growing Info

Sow in modules 1 seed per cell, plant out 4 weeks later at 25 to 30cm spacing.

  • Sow late January to March for an early spring crop undercover.
  • Sow April to late June for a summer crop outside (sow at 3-4 week intervals)
  • Sow July to early August for a late crop under cover.
  • Harvest 8-12 weeks later.

TOP TIP: When transplanting don't plant to deep as stems may rot.
