Organic Pea - Sugarsnap *NEW*

£3.00

Pisum sativum ~ approx. 40 seeds

The original Sugar Snap pea.  Named for its flavour and the satisfying sound when you snap a crispy pod in half. Perfect for snacking on. If they make it out of the garden, pop them in a lunchbox or mix into a fresh salad, they are truly delicious.

Growing well over a long season in both hot and cold weather, Sugar Snap germinates well in cold, wet soil, and the vigorous plants will grow up to 180cm.

'Sugar Snap' pea was introduced in 1979 by Dr. Calvin Lamborn with help from his colleague, Dr. M.C. Parker. The resulting pea became practically an overnight success, and it stands as one of the most impressive feats of plant breeding of the past century.

Growing Info

Sowing: We sow peas in modules in March for transplanting outdoors in mid to late April, giving young plants some protection from wind in exposed spots. Alternatively, sow directly into the soil from April to May. June is also a good time for sowing a late summer or autumn harvest.

Spacing: 15cm

Harvest: Jun-Sep

Tips: Try hanging old CD's on a string from the pea supports to keep the birds off, most genres tested seem to be effective.
