Seeds of Scotland
Beetroot - Dobbies Purple
GROWN IN SCOTLAND by Seeds of Scotland
Beta vulgaris ~ approx. 200 seeds
This variety was bred in the 19th Century by a then, small independent Scottish seed company ‘Dobbies of Edinburgh'. A truly Scottish beetroot.
The roots are a distinct tapered shape with leaves that turn from green with purple veins to very dark purple/maroon as they mature. The roots have a sweet, earthy flavour and leaves are as beautiful. We pick the outside leaves throughout the summer like chard and harvest the roots in the Autumn.
The seeds have been collected and conserved by the Heritage Seed Library as well as the Irish Seed Savers Association.
