Brassica carinata

Sometimes known as Abyssinian Mustard or Garlic Kale. This delicious salad green has a lovely mild garlic flavour when eaten raw, like a combination of spinach and wild garlic. This is one of our favourites! You can also harvest immature flower stems and cook them like broccoli. Well suited to cut-and-come-again. Successional sow throughout the season to have a constant supply of these delicious leaves.

Growing Info

Sowing: Sow into modules indoors from March until September. May also be direct sown from early spring through late summer. Sow in succession for an extended harvest.

Spacing: 20-25cm

Harvest: May-Feb

Tips: Cover young plants in insect mesh to protect from flea beetle (spring/summer). Texel Greens are hardy and August/September sowings can be transplanted undercover to provide a crop throughout the winter.

Germination: 92% July 2026
