Seeds of Scotland
Pea - Norrlands Express Sugar Pea *NEW 2024/25*
Pisum sativum - approximately 40 seeds.
Very early sugar pea originally developed by Danish seed company 'Ohlsen's Enke' in Malmö the 1950's. This variety was intended for growing in the short seasoned sub-arctic conditions of the 'Norrland' region in the north of Sweden. This is our earliest pea variety!
The green pods are crispy and have a sweet flavour they are best when picked early before the peas begin to form and swell inside. Plants will grow up to between 1.2m and 1.5m tall.
Growing Info
Pea plants will need support or something to climb up. We sow our peas into modules in March for transplanting outside in mid/late April. At this time the young plants may need some shelter from the wind in exposed spots. Alternatively direct sow into the soil in April/May. June is a good month for making sowings for late summer and autumn harvests.
Tips: Try hanging old CD's on a string from the pea supports to keep the birds off, most genres tested seem to be effective.
