Climbing French Bean - Northeaster *NEW 2024/25*

Phaseolus vulgaris - approximately 40 seeds.

Early-maturing, deliciously rich and sweet Roma-type climbing French bean. This variety is known for its cold tolerance and is a popular variety with northern growers in the USA. The tall, productive plants yield long, flat, pods (up 25cm!) that remain stringless and tender throughout the season, ensuring an extended harvest period.

 

 

Growing Info

Climbing French beans will need support or something to grow up such as bamboo canes, hazel sticks or trellis.  Don't be tempted to sow too early as beans sown slightly later will often catch up and be much healthier.  Sow in trays, pots or root trainers in May and transplant out at 15-20cm after the risk of frost has passed.  

If sowing direct, do so in late May/early June, after the risk of frost has passed. 

French Beans will do best when grown undercover in many parts of Scotland, however, they will also do well outside in a sheltered sunny spot.
